The Sims 3, developed by Maxis and released on June 2, 2009 by Electronic Arts,
is a life simulation game and the third game in the Sims series. You can create
a character or characters called “sims” and move them into a little house where
you take care of them.
The game might sound boring on paper but I’ve been obsessed with it for a few
years. You might have to jump through a couple hoops to get it looking nice,
but I promise you the game is really fun!
People who are new to the Sims series ask me this sometimes and I’ll be honest,
it’s kind of a hard question to answer. The best way I can answer it is this:
You can do basically anything!! Want to create the perfect family? Want to make
the person of your dreams? Want to just wreak havoc upon your in-game neighbors?
You can do it all in the Sims 3. And since the Sims 3 is an open world, you
don’t have to worry about loading screens!
People have even made challenges and posted them online. The best way to find
these are through Mod the Sims, but popular ones include the
100 Baby Challenge,
the Asylum Challenge,
and the Random Legacy Challenge.
Is the base game a little boring to you? The Sims 3 has a LOT of good expansion
packs that enhance the game. My favorites are Seasons,
Pets,
and Generations.
If you don’t want to spend money, there’s also the beautiful world of custom
content and mods. These are fan-made pieces of content that you can put into
your game. My favorite place to get custom content is Mod the Sims, but places
like Tumblr can help you get started.
I know what you’re saying. “Josie, if the game isn’t the newest installment in the franchise
and the graphics haven’t aged well, why play it now?” I understand asking but in all honesty,
I don’t really like the Sims 4! It feels a little boring, and I don’t want to feel bored while
playing a video game! I have a lot of the expansion packs and they feel empty of content to me.
This isn’t to say that the Sims 4 is a bad game, of course not! The visuals definitely look better
compared to the Sims 3, and I like all the new outfits they made for the game! From a gameplay
perspective however, it just doesn’t appeal to me. You can definitely like the Sims 4 if you want,
and if you think it’s a better game than the Sims 3, more power to you! I believe having your own
opinions is a very good thing as long as you aren’t hurting anyone or being mean.
